Cheryl earned her BA degree in education from Pepperdine University. Cheryl's experience as a teacher, curriculum designer, and national training director combined with her work as an educational editor for a leading instructional systems design company, uniquely prepares her for the development of standards-based curriculum. Shepherding her two daughters through 12 years of education, working with schools, and conferring with parents, teachers, and administrators to raise standards and expectations, Cheryl has dedicated her talents to increasing the understanding that students will realize their unique potentials when given appropriate guidance and the proper tools. "As parents, educators, and community members, we must create a dialogue of relevance connecting daily lessons, conversations, and activities to the opportunities and challenges of a 21st century world." That passion for a partnership between home, school, and community inspires Cheryl's advocacy, supporting the achievement of all children. Along with a wealth of specific knowledge, Cheryl carries a demonstrated history of helping others to define and follow a path to success.

Lynne Vagt, President
Lynne holds a Bachelor of Science from Oregon State University. While
working in public relations and marketing for two national sports governing bodies, Lynne created
training materials and conducted training workshops throughout the U.S. For nearly 20 years, she
has been active in primary and secondary education, guiding her eight children through a variety
of educational options, including home schooling, public schooling, private classes, correspondence
courses, and community and four-year college courses. Through her broad-based involvement in
multiple educational arenas, Lynne has become well-versed on a wide variety of educational topics
and issues and become passionately committed to all students having the tools and resources
necessary to achieve success. With a firm grasp on the academic opportunities available to students
and the 21st century mandate for readiness, Lynne possesses a demonstrated ability to help students
mat ch their unique strengths with a personal plan for achievement.

Dr. Ken Waters
Ken Waters is the Blanche E. Seaver Professor of Journalism at
Pepperdine University. He has been teaching journalism, mass communication theory and communication
ethics at Pepperdine since 1989. Each year he also teaches a first-year seminar course in which
he helps students adjust to college life both academically and personally. Some of the elements
of this course include the keys to academic success, how to turn interests and passions into
successful careers, and how to live an ethically satisfying life. Waters received his Ph.D. in
communication theory from the University of Southern California. He also holds M.A. degrees in
religion and communication from Pepperdine, where he received his B.A. in journalism and history.
Waters' research on religious journalism, nonprofit fundraising ethics and journalism ethics has
been published in several scholarly journals. He has also written extensively as a freelance
writer. Prior to his career at Pepperdine, Waters served as a traveling journalist and public
relations director for the relief and development agency World Vision.
Dr. Rick Stewart
Rick has been a counselor, teacher, and administrator at the public
school, community college, and university level for over thirty years. Besides twenty three years
of direct counseling for students entering college, Rick served as a coordinator of instructional
services, director of counseling, dean of student services, and vice president of student services
in colleges in Colorado, California, and Washington. Rick holds Washington State secondary
credentials in counseling, speech, and science. He attended community college at Chabot College
(Hayward, CA) and Skagit Valley College (Mt. Vernon, WA) before completing his bachelor's degree
in speech education and his master's degree in counseling from Washington State University. He
received his PhD from the University of Texas at Austin in education administration community
college leadership. Throughout his career, Rick has designed and delivered courses and services
emphasizing college success, career and life planning, and personal responsibility and
decision-making
